Georgetown, Grand Cayman

Our third stop was Grand Cayman. It was sunny and beautiful the whole day, although it was a bit windy. So windy, apparently, that we weren't able to go into the regular port and had to use an alternate one on the other side of the island. One Carnival cruise ship that was supposed to be in the port that day didn't even get to go because there weren't enough spots. So we feel lucky that we got to go there, especially since it ended up being our favorite stop.

We did another non-cruise ship tour to go to Stingray City and snorkeling. This is supposed to be the thing to do in Grand Cayman. It's a sandbar where like 100+ huge stingrays hang out all day and you can go and interact with them. Our tour guides where great, it was a little family company called Stingray Sailing. Our group only had like a dozen people in it and we sailed out to the sandbar in a nice catamaran.

It was a little scary at first getting into the water with these massive stingrays swimming all around you. They are not shy and will bump right into you as they go by. Most of them are like 3-5 feet across. We got to hold them up and feed them squid. Their undersides feel like a wet mushroom. It was awesome!

After that we snorkeled, which I had never done before. I loved it! Here's a picture of some local underwater wildlife, I think it's called the Mike Fish:

It was a nice relaxing tour. A bit chilly because of the wind, but so fun!

And the water was so blue!

When we got done with the tour, we went to the beach and played for a while.

This was definitely our favorite stop. I'm convinced that if we're ever rich enough to buy a vacation home in the caribbean (dream on, Mary), it will be here. The economy and living conditions where so much nicer than in Jamaica, since Grand Cayman didn't split from England like Jamaica did and their economy is really stable. We were sad to leave!
