He Likes Food

Reed is our eater. Rachel is picky and eats like a mouse, so we're not used to this. But Reed loves food and it seems like he can't ever get enough. He's 5 1/2 months old and he still polishes off 6 ounces of formula every 2-3 hours (partly due to the fact that he sleeps a straight 10-11 hours at night). We figured we'd wait until he was at least 6 months old to start on solid foods, but this kid is voracious and we've been thinking lately that he's so ready. Especially since if we hold him in our laps while eating, he gazes at the spoon or fork the whole time with his mouth wide open. And today, Mike gave him a little bit of mashed potato, and a couple minutes later, Reed tried grabbing at the potatoes on his plate very forcefully, twice. So yeah, it's time for real food for this little chunker. So here are pictures of Reed's first foray into food on a spoon.

I remember when we started Rachel on rice cereal, for the first few feedings, none of it ended up in her stomach. It all went in the mouth, and right back out. Not so with Reed. He still has many eating skills to learn, but he at least gets the concept that this weird white stuff on the spoon is, in fact, food.

And it's goooood.

Just wait until you experience applesauce, Reed. It will blow your mind.

Most of it did end up outside him instead of inside, of course, but that's all part of the fun.

Rachel's reaction to all this messiness:
Rachel doesn't handle messiness well.

My boys. :) They are so cute and awesome.
